#2 What’s Sorare ?
Sorare is a Fantasy Football game where you can buy, sell and compete with players.
By selecting the best players from your club and lining them up in a competition you can earn money (thousands of euros each week). The more points your players score, the higher you’re ranking and the more expensive your rewards are.
Isn't that a good reason to get interested in this fantasy soccer game now?
Different cards, different rarity
A Sorare card is a Non-Fungible-Token (NFT) issued on a specific season. Each season cards are printed on the game. (The date of the season is at the top left)
You can also see “54/100” for Ronaldo's 2019-2020 season card above and “11/100” for his 2020-2021 season card.
The first number (54 for 2019-2020 and 11 for 2020-2021) corresponds to its printing number, for example the 1st printed card will have the number 1/100, the 2nd the number 2/100, ...
The second number represents the total cards of this version that are or will be printed.
You can see that there are 100 Ronaldo cards that have been printed for the 2019-2020 season and that each of these cards has a specific number which makes them unique.
Note: Sorare can only print a player's card if it has obtained a license for it (through its club or national team).
But that's not all! There are currently 4 different types of rarity (in fact there are 5 but I will explain you later) on Sorare:
Limited
Rare
Super-Rare
Unique
For each season, there are 1000 limited cards printed for each player, 100 rare cards, 10 super-rare cards and 1 unique card.
Note: If a player changes clubs after the card is printed, the card will not be changed. Does this have any consequences for your player? Not at all: no matter which season or club is on your card; it is the player's performance at his current club that determines his performance in the leagues you play in.
HOW TO PLAY SORARE?
Game Week
There are two Game Weeks (GW) per week, as you can see, we are currently at GW230.
A GW consists of all the matches that are played in real life for a given period. (usually it's 3 or 4 days).
For each rarity (limited, rare, super-rare and unique) of players, there are several tournaments in which you can participate:
Champion Europe -> players from the teams of the 5 major leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1)
Challenger Europe -> players from teams of other European leagues (Belgian D1, Eredivisie, Turkish League, ...)
Champion America -> players from teams of the American continent (MLS, Primera Division, …)
Champion Asia -> players from teams of the Asian continent (J1 League, K1 League, …)
U23 -> all players who are under 23 years old
All-Stars -> All players
Requirements
In each of these competitions you must field 5 players: 1 goalkeeper, 1 defender, 1 midfielder, 1 striker and an extra player who can be either a defender, a midfielder or a striker.
Note: A player can only be used on one team per GW. For example: If you have a version of Messi Limited you can put him either in All-Star, or in Champion Europe but not in both. If you have more than one card from the same player, you can use all of them during a GW, but not in the same team!
A player can make a score that varies between 0 and 100 points. The addition of the points of each player will give your total result to position you in the ranking.
I will write a full article on how the points allocation works
Bonus point
You can see percentages below the different players I lined up. These correspond to bonus points that each player earns at the end of the competition. (If a player has a score of 100 points with a 5% bonus, he will get for this competition 105 points)
You must choose a captain who will get a 20% bonus on top of his base bonus so it's very important to choose the right captain!
I will write an article that will talk in detail about how the bonus percentage works.
What can you earn?
You can see in the prize pool part all the information about the awarding of the prizes for each competition of a GW.
On the pictures above, I show you the difference of awarding between the limited and unique competitions for the GW228.
You can see that in the All-Star Limited competition there are 15 577 participants for 0.590 ETH (2100€ at the current Ethereum rate) and 1200 limited cards distributed as a reward.
While in the All-Star Unique competition there are 41 participants for 2.8 ETH (almost 10k€ at the current Ethereum rate) and 3 Super-Rare cards distributed as a reward.
That's a pretty huge difference, but so is the price difference between limited and unique cards.
Here is the distribution of the rewards in the All-Star Limited competition seen in a little more detail.
Only the top 3 will receive rewards in Ethereum directly. However, there are 1200 managers who will receive a limited card.
You have to be in the top 8% of managers in the competition to be rewarded. Not bad?
I will write an article on which competitions reward the most players.
Tiers
There are different tiers depending on your position in the ranking, what does that mean?
The "Star-Limited" tier also called Tier 0 contains the best players on Sorare (according to the average score of their last games and their value in Ethereum) like Mbappe, Lewandowski or Lionel Messi.
The higher the tier the less the player will be worth in Ethereum.
Do you remember? I told you that there are 2 GW per week and that in this one there are several competitions for each rarity? So, you understand that there is a lot of money to be made in this game by being a good manager.
Common card
There is one type of card I haven't told you about yet, which is the Common Card. After you register and complete the basic tasks, you will have 12 of them. By participating in the Rookie League, you will receive additional Common Cards.
These cards are free and cannot be sold, traded or given away. In addition to the Rookie League, they can be used in all Rare competitions.
Please note that you can only use one card per competition, and this is subject to a 45% penalty on the player's points.
By playing a Common Card, you lose almost half of the points obtained, but on the other hand, these cards are free and very useful to have complete teams.
TIP: If you want to make a rare team, it is very interesting to use a Common Card at the beginning of the game and with a limited budget so that you don't have to buy keeper, which are the most expensive cards in the game.
There is a Rookie League for each GW, there are awards for the top 3 managers in the Rookie League. Theoretically you can play Sorare for free and hope to get a reward, but it is an extremely difficult task. (3/79000 is more or less 0.004% of winners).
The real use of Common Cards is to be able to align them with your other cards in the Training game. The training part of the game allows players to increase their experience (see below) to level up their cards. The point bonus of a card increases according to the level of the card. (remember, each card has a percentage that will be an additional bonus to the points the player makes during a match)
I will write an article that will talk about how the training works and how to optimize the best way to improve the level of your cards
When I started, I wish I had someone who could give me advice on what to do and what not to do.
If you'll allow me, I'd like to be that person for you and try to give you the best advice in your Sorare adventure.
I will publish articles regularly in this newsletter so don't hesitate to register in order to be informed of the release of each article.
I will also share with you the adventure of my brother who opened a Sorare account starting with 1000€, I will explain the choices, the strategy and show you the results every week to help you get inspired and advise you.
The next article will explain how to create a Sorare account, how to add Ethereum to buy your own players and start playing Sorare.
