#4 How to create your first team?
Before creating your first team, you need to determine what profile you have. This is a key point to determine your investment strategy on Sorare.
Here is a list with the different main profiles:
- Performance-based profile: You aim for the top of the ranking to get the best rewards. You will therefore build the most competitive team within your budget.
- Long-term investor profile: You are not necessarily interested in playing Sorare but you think that the game will become mainstream and therefore invest money on confirmed players (NFT) who will make you money in a few months/years.
- Talent seeker profile: You want to make big moves and find the new Mbappe or Haaland to make a huge profit.
- Short term investor / Trader : You are a hard worker, data enthusiast and football connoisseur.
Even if one does not prevent the other, I think it is wiser to define oneself within one of these profiles and to establish a strategy adapted to it.
Personally, my profile fits best with Performance-based profile because for me it is the one that best fits my football knowledge.
The one that has the best snowball effect will be the combination of the Short term investor / Trader and the Performance-based profile because this manager will accumulate Eth through his performance that he can invest in trading.
In this article I will focus on the design of a successful roster, in a future article I will explain short/medium term investment strategies that could be useful to the hardest worker among you.
How do you know if a player is performing well on Sorare or not?
On Sorare, by clicking on a card, you have access to the scores of the last 5 games of a player as well as an average of these last 5 games. This is clearly not enough to decide which players we will buy.
SorareData
That's why I'm going to tell you about a tool that is ESSENTIAL for any Sorare manager.
SorareData, it's a tool where we have access to a lot of information about the Sorare game, the primary and secondary market, the different Sorare competitions (SO5), and what interests us the most : the players. I will not present this tool in this article because it would be extremely long but I will write several articles to present the different features of the site soon.
By searching for a player's name you will be able to see the history of all the scores he has achieved in his previous matches. There is an average of the last 5, 15 and 40 games to be able to establish rankings over different periods of time.
SorareData is the bible of a Sorare manager, no purchase decision should be made without it.
Creation of an efficient roster
What is a high-performance card?
#1 Undisputed starter with his club
On SD you can see next to the L5, L15 and L40 the percentage of playing time of a player. ATTENTION, this is not in minutes but in appearances, if a player has entered even 1 minute on the field it counts as a match played. If you want to have more info on the minutes played you can either move your mouse over a particular point in the player's scoreboard, or go to the Transfermarkt website (link) or the flashscore mobile application.
#2 Performers on Sorare
Sorare has a scoring system that does not always reflect the quality of a player's game. A player who from your point of view may have had an excellent match may not have a good score on Sorare. You have to understand the scoring system and use the data on SorareDate to find out which players are performing well on Sorare (I will write an article explaining the scoring system on Sorare).
#3 Knowing a player's profile
There are 2 ways to score on Sorare: The decisive score and the All-Around-Score. You have to know if the player you are interested in is more of a regular player or a decisive player is important to compose your team because there are several team design strategies:
Cautious strategy: take regular players with scores between 45 and 60. Reward: very regularly T3 but it will be more complicated to go beyond.
Balanced strategy: A mix of very regular players with 1 or 2 less regular players who can make big scores. This type of team will reach less T3 but will allow to scratch T2 or more from time to time
Bold strategy: Only players capable of going 70-80 every 2/3 GW. Apart from some expensive stars, this type of player will alternate some games at 35/40 and others at 65/70 or more. This team will have less Reward but will allow you to go for T1 and even better.
#5 International (Bonus)
If your player is playing as a starter in his own country it can be extremely interesting for international matches because there will be less people participating in GW during the matches so you will have more chance to get a better reward.
Do I start on several teams that will allow me to participate in several GW competitions or do I concentrate on one big team to aim higher?
I think that quality over quantity is a better choice. You will say to me: “Yes, but if I have more teams I can have several awards”. Correct, but only if you can afford to have several high quality teams for each competition. Otherwise, you won't go for big rewards unless you are lucky, if you have rewards they will often be Tier 3 or even 2, whereas with a good team you can aim for Tier 1 or even 0. The price difference between these rewards is huge.
Do I take players from the same league or not?
I think it is more interesting to make a team for a championship actually. Simply because there are leagues that are not going to play at the same time. For example: you have one team with two Eredivisie players and three Jupiler Pro League players. This week, the Eredivisie matches are played on the weekend and the Jupiler Pro League matches on Tuesday and Wednesday. You will have 3 players who will have DNP's on the weekend and 2 DNP's on the week that means no reward.
For me it's better to specialize in a league you know well and participate in every GW where the games of that league are played.
Do I take players from the same team or not?
This is a strategy that is much debated among Sorare managers. This is the strategy I personally use. Here are the positive and negative points and my explanation of why I use this strategy:
Positive points:
- Always plays in the same GW
- If the team has a huge game all the players will potentially have big scores and you can get a big reward
Negative points:
- Always plays in the same GW (if they do not have a match on a GW they will have DNP)
- If the team has a bad match all players will potentially have a low score and therefore no reward
Why do I use this strategy and how?
I use this strategy but only with clubs that are extremely dominant in their league (Ajax, Brugge, Bayern, Real Madrid, Inter,...). Because these teams are likely to put 5-0 every week and therefore have a lot of points.
I started this strategy 3 weeks ago and here are my results:
GW 226 à 1st Challenger Europe (Star-Limited + 0.2ETH)
GW 227 à10th Challenger Europe (Star-Limited)
GW 228 à 487th U23 (failed attempt)
GW 229 à 21st Challenger Europe (Tier 1)
Not bad ?
Now that you know how to create your first team(s) with SorareData and with an elaborate strategy you are ready to do your research and why not participate soon in your first GW!
